Wonderful book! I couldn't put it down. Bullying is such an epidemic these days and this book covers all the different problems and consequences. Very talented writer.
I truly loved this book and thought A.L. Steiff did an amazing job at developing characters and a plot that were both entertaining and relatbale for modern day teens. I highly recommend this book for junior high students and above.
I think this story will unfortunately hit home for a variety of folks...it's a reminder of how important friendship and support are. I really loved what Emma planned for the football game...what a great positive display to counter such nastiness!
An easy and entertaining read, Stieff's #thesedays relays the story of a high school girl caught between webs of popularity, bullying, and the loss of a parent. Emma is a very relatable protagonist with a popular best friend on the volleyball team, an understanding older brother, a dad who's been keeping his distance since Mom died, and, Sam, Emma's estranged best friend who she is trying to rekindle her friendship with. The character portrayals of the teachers and the students are spot-on, inciting frustration, anger and empathy when necessary, pulling your emotions in multiple directions.
All the issues in this book are presented with great transparency, through the eyes of a high school student who struggles with tough decisions about herself and others. Bullying, loss, love, and popularity are woven throughout the threads of the novella, connected and tied together throughout.
