I normally don’t read short stories, but I read this story with an open mind. I wasn’t disappointed. I just wish the author made this story into a novel. I think the subject matter is too intense for a short story. I would have liked more insight as to why the main characters were interested in each other. I would have liked for the chemistry between the characters to be built up a bit more. The plot twist is one I didn’t see coming, but the resolution came and went a little too quickly for my tastes. The sex scene was well written and juicy just like a good sex scene in a romance novel should be. I can say that reading ‘Through the Storm’ left me wanting more. That is a testament to the author’s great writing and awesome storytelling abilities. It’s a quick, fun read. I am eager to read other stories by this author.

Through the Storm BWWM Interracial Romance edition by Shari Michaels Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I enjoyed this short story, it kept me hooked to the end. It was a surprising little package with a unique theme - two people brought together under difficult circumstances and any possibility of a meeting of like minds is overshadowed by the tragedy of alcohol addiction. Thoroughly recommended.
Tempest and Ryan are recovering alcoholics who have been attending the same AA meetings for about a year. Even though they both are in the process of healing from their emotional wounds, they decide to give love a chance by going out on a date. Just as their relationship gets started, they are hit with an obstacle they don't see coming.

This was one of those rare times when I wished a short story was a full-length novel. I liked Tempest and Ryan and wished I could have gotten to know them better. Considering they are struggling with addiction and trying to overcome the things that haunt them from their respective pasts, there was a lot of material that the author could have delved into.

The only reason I'm complaining about the length of the story is because I didn't want it to end so soon. I would have loved to find out how Tempest and Ryan dealt with their burgeoning relationship and how they handled the inevitable issues that would force them to assess who they are and what they want for their future. It would be great if the author wrote a sequel so that we could find out what happened to these characters as they embarked on their relationship.
I have read several of this author's works and have reluctantly accepted that she writes (very) short stories, but...they are soooo good!

Through The Storm is the tale of two recovering alcoholics who agree to date for the first time. Ryan has been feeling Tempest since they met in AA, and he's happy that she's finally agreed to go out with him. Tempest is feeling Ryan too, but she's shy, and a little reserved-all for a good reason-all is not what it seems. Ryan and Tempest have a very romantic encounter, but Tempest seems to have regret her decision to be with Ryan-much to his disappointment. When her further investigates why, he's thrown for the biggest loop. Can you say plot twist?

If you need to get your reading fix, and only have about an hour to spare, click this book up! I truly wish the author would consider writing longer, more developed stories because she's a really good storyteller. She just leaves me wanting more...But my love jones gets satisfied nonetheless...
